Amún Shéa opened it’s doors in 2008 as a private non-profit school with an innovative problem-based learning methodology (PBL) and was not created to be an exclusive private school superior to the surrounding public schools, but to be a laboratory from which to extract experience and lessons to make education more relevant to individual and sustainable rural development. In the intervening years, Amún Shéa has multiplied into something larger with a positive impact rippling out further each day. It is now nationally recognized by the Ministry of Education (MINED) as a creative hands-on school that produces critical thinkers, confidence and competence. Our program in Perquín has become a true developmental hub consisting of four strategic areas of intervention:
Relevant Formal Education focusing on developing the human talent needed for sustainable rural development.
Food Security, Environmental Restoration and Conservation focusing on transforming existing production systems to achieve food security in harmony with environmental restoration and conservation.
Science, Technology and Innovation fostering a culture of scientific and technological development, hand in hand with education and actual production.
Community Empowerment and Development consisting of direct intervention in areas identified as urgent and necessary in the economic, environmental, social, and cultural spheres in El Salvador.
